Haya Mani, artist

Haya Mani is a Palestinian architect of 25 years old. She lives in East-Jerusalemen where she is a Master’s student in  Urban desing.  L’Eclectique Magazine has a real crush for her colored artworks full of hope. Haya has answered to our questions about her work.

• Can you explain how do you realize you artworks?

I believe that art is a tool of documentation to our experiences that we face in life, the events that happens around us either socially politically or even emotionally. Art is really a way to get through tough life, art makes the soul grow and somehow it can be the only cure to the difficulties we face or the only exist we run to. Sometimes I use free hand sketches or paint with acrylic, sometimes I work on imaginary art interventions which excites me the most! Using mix media technique allows me to combine reality with the imagining scenarios I build in my mind.

• What inspires you?  What makes you creative?

The thing that inspires me the most is ‘’ Nothingness’’, when you have nothing you challenge yourself to imagine and create your own space through art. Coming from architectural background I had always to design projects out of nothing, I use the same concept in my art pieces and I try to imagine the extreme to run from reality to a surreal place. I always try to see everything from a different angle that others see it and this what makes me creative.

• Do you think that the artists through arts and culture could help people to live together peacefully?

Of course, art is a universal language which all the people of the world share. We share the same meaning of feelings and emotions for example pain, love, hurt, hope even if we share it in different representations and images. Art is a timeless tool than can join people together.

Art Interventions on Real Photo Basis / Mix Media Art

These art interventions were done after the war that happened in Gaza/ August 2014 and they are based on real photos. These Art interventions are a way to look at things in a different perspective, a perspective of endless possibilities. What is meant to be a hole in a the wall may be seen as an internal galaxy of imagination and what is destroyed could be considered as a point to start over. After a huge loss there is always a way to look forward and to never lose hope.

Art Interventions on Famous Art Pieces

Analyzing Guernica by Pablo Picasso, abstract piece of art and reading its hidden messages can be interpreted all over the world with the same meanings of pain, of loss. This is what makes it universal and timeless . The Original Painting Guernica was done in black and white to emphasis the chaos of the shapes and to share the dark feeling of sadness. Coloring it was an attempt to show hope and strength. This art intervention was drawn on the entrance wall of AlHind University in East Jerusalem.
